Brand Advertising vs. Direct for your site
I wish I had five dollars for every major site on the Internet is that is there and generates little traffic and virtually no money! I love internet marketing, but I would have so much money I could get out and retire to the beach! There is a problem most sites have. It 's the same problem most companies have off-line. Let's take a look at the problem, then discuss a solution.
When most of us think about advertising, we naturally think about brand advertising. Why? As we grew up watching the commercials on television Tide, I think. Or because we are reminded of the few truly great brand-building ads that actually made in our subconscious.
Remember "Like a Rock", the Dodge pick-up in September sales, the music of Bob Seger? Unless you're younger than 30 and / or have been living under a rock, you should remember that ad. I can hear the music now ... Like a rock ... then you have those great slo-mo images of a new Dodge truck wheelies cut mud to the knees! I actually loved that ad! I usually turn the sound down when the ads are, but I always did that ad up! The only problem is ...
I have owned a number of cars in my life ... It never even occurred to me to buy a Dodge truck! (And yes, I owned more than a pick-up!)
Then there was the summer time we had this terrific thunder storm! It 'was so bad, my wife and children were herded into the center of the house (basement also has many windows to be sure). I stood next to them - to the father, is-just-a-time thing. When Blam! There was a bolt of lightning was so close it seemed that someone had shot out a 0.45 right next to us.
My wife and I looked at each other, stunned for a moment. Then he said: "Lee, maybe you should check the attic."
I came up in our unfinished attic and looked around to see if lightning struck the house. I could not go outside looking in, it was a lightning striking all around us - like a war zone.
I have not seen anything, when I heard a sickening crunch, the sound of cracking. I knew what it was! It was a tree, or part of a tree falling - right over my head! There was only one tree that could have been. A tulip poplar huge, probably 80 to 100 years.
I ran the length of the attic, vaulted the fence and landed halfway down the stairs. By the time I got back downstairs (nanoseconds after!) Whatever it was had fallen. I opened the parlor door. (Lightning was hitting all over again - it felt like New Year) The living room has a large bank of windows overlooking the courtyard. These windows were completely blocked.
Once I could go outside, I saw that the upper third of the tree had fallen. It extended from the house to the street! The only place that the citizens of the trunk of a tree touched my house was the way to the top of the eardrum, in the end rested on the fascia.
Talk about luck! (Or, more likely something more!)
Continue reading ... this story really has a completely fascinating.
The tree, which I loved, had been literally torn to pieces! There were three trees in a spiral that has torn the length of the shaft. It 'was divided in two, and half the bark had been blown away.
In other words, my next problem was that could fall on the house.
So, what have I done?
A week earlier, a local tree company had sent me a direct response ad. It was a letter written well enough with a card I can send it back for a time $ 100 discount offer. I have been digging through the wastebasket to find that card!
I found it and called the company. 24 hours and thousands of dollars later, the tree has been removed.
So, here's the thing.
At some point in my life, I need a car - I never bought a Dodge truck, although I definitely bought pickups.
At some point in my life, I needed a tree removed - I called a company, spoke with the president, and gave him great control on the following day.
What is the essential difference here!
Answer: The types of advertising.
The Dodge truck is an example of brand advertising. Oh yes, it worked. I remember the brand. I never just bought the truck
The tree guy was an example of direct advertising. It worked too!
I think it's clear that what we should use!
