Gift Cards - You've got to spend money to make money!

The old saying you have to spend money to make money, which is no longer true that the gift cards. Look around, everything I've seen advertised on television and in newspapers this holiday season was for the purchase of gift cards. And 'as if Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Target do not have merchandise to sell.

Today advertising is very expensive. The marketing people know that advertising for a specific product to national or local level can cost thousands if not millions of dollars. Is it worth it to sell 1 product. For those interested in this product may venture into the shop and, while there, you can purchase other items, but what about those not interested in that product? All that money spent and not a direct result seems a waste. What the marketing departments of these companies have decided to do is push gift cards. In today's fast paced lifestyle, window shopping and browsing is a luxury that most people have not or will not do, with their little free time. Gift cards are the drive-through for those resellers. Quickly pick up a paper, jot down some money and be on your way. Gift cards have become very trendy and convenient for consumers.

This sounds good for the consumer, but because the dealer is pushing the cards. They really want their customers to be happy? Maybe, but being a synic I can suggest other reasons. First, gift cards are great for cash flow. The crate is located in the account resellers and waits for the purchase at a later time. Secondly, some gift cards are never used, may be lost or forgotten. Thirdly, the average consumer when making a purchase using their gift cards, spending more than the amount of the gift card. In fourth place with gift cards to cut down back in the shops. The cashiers spend less time, merchandise is not destroyed or abused and inventory amounts reflect the actual sales which helps in planning supplies. Fifthly, these cards can be reloaded or the exact amounts can be emptied. With gift certificates any unused portion was usually returned in cash to the consumer, so a sale could not really be a complete sale.

Having a company, Solutions Ink, in the field of promotional products that I have personally seen the drastic change in gift cards. The next round will come in great loyalty cards, as these same retailers discover the benefits of buying patterns of consumers. The old adage that you must spend money to make money is true, but with today's competitive markets you need to spend that money wisely. You do not mind spending the money if there is a return to profit. We see with gift cards that the returns are great, more than offsetting the pennies you spend on each card. Loyalty Cards With the knowledge gained on consumers' buying habits will lead to marketing campaigns tailored to each consumer, with response rates phenomenal. If you know what the customer is trying to offer them the product, chances are it will buy from you, and I appreciate your help in saving their time. Be the first to market in your category business will give you a decided advantage for years to come .......
