Art and Censorship, The Birth Of The Social Taboos

Over the years the art has been a hot topic in all respects but one of the most controversial has been the prohibition of various subjects in the same, better known as the censorship of some topics in applied art. The interesting thing is that there is no law to apply censorship but who criticizes certain themes in art is applied to society as not to your liking embody what the authors are their works of art. All this has to do with the time because the behavior and beliefs of society are changing over time, making it possible that some items are accepted while others are repressed. Course, also the determination of the artists by noting his work has enabled this agreement and although at first not well received, with the time people get used to allow these works to be performed. As mentioned previously censorship also builds on the theme that is reflected in art, as well as there are issues that are best used as love, portraits, landscapes, etc., there are certain issues that are most censured by the society such as religion, eroticism, sadism, grotesque, among others.

While some really are not accepted in full, others simply are not well are seen as the last two. It is important to note that societies create taboos about these contexts that allow them to be applied in the art. As already mentioned one of the main factors of censorship is the time in which we live, for example in ancient times was not well seen naked bodies were translated, as it came to what were portraits, but with the time naked bodies emerged and although at first not accepted society, were introduced gradually in the art to be appreciated, so it was with many other issues, but unfortunately for that acceptance is given, it must go through various violent processes in which society manifests against artists to suppress their ideas. Another reason why at times the art was censored by the habits and customs that had, so to speak, if most artists only painted landscapes because that was what was demanded at that time, no one could possibly would like to make art with images of war, because it was not at that time appreciated.

Another controversial point about censorship issues have been, as already mentioned are those that cause more conflict, because people can not tolerate that some people are able to produce works of art with themes as "sensitive?. For example, religion in and out of art is a contentious issue, since it is subjective and is based on faith, but because not all religious beliefs are or are not of the same religion, no one has known how to respect the beliefs of each, so when an artist uses a religious theme as art and not to the liking of the observers, mainly belonging to that religion, manifested mainly in an aggressive manner, against the artist. Understandably, not to the liking of society, but there must be a respect for the artist and the artist must respect the beliefs of society. So it is with other issues such as the grotesque or sadistic, though less controversial, the impact, since it is not something you are used to seeing, society usually appreciates the aesthetic and when the picture is different because it tends to censor is something unusual.

We conclude that censorship is a social problem rather than legal and that everything is in the eye of the beholder, but in my own opinion the same society is very contradictory because at the beginning is to censor what is not common, but in the end accept it. Another major contradiction is that there is consistency in their censorship as an issue as the repressed eroticism is faster than a violent theme, for example, is completely normal to see a painting of a battle that a picture of two naked people kissing. That is why censorship is based on taboos rather than what really matters, the integrity of society and the author.
