Leadership styles


When approaching the study of leadership styles, many authors differentiate between observable behaviors: activities or behavior that makes the head and depend largely on the situation, and leadership styles: the structure of personality remains relatively stable over different situations and motivates behavior. It's the classic debate between the situationists and factorials.

However, advances in statistical science have corroborated patterns of action that "repeated? in the life of people with different situations. These patterns or factors have been isolated by factor analysis and have shown predictive power of the behaviors that we can not ignore. Psychology as a science, requires the verification of predictive criteria to establish their theories.

Although many styles could set direction, the typology is less important than the way you use it. The interest of the diagnosis on management style is to determine the nuances and modulations that occur in the way that a subject exerts its influence on another, whether or not hierarchical power. The style adopted, if appropriate, increase motivation and staff performance, otherwise not make it.

They have identified three classes of Leadership Styles with corresponding subcategories:

1. Influential Style

2. Membership Generator

2.1. Those who promote the membership

2.2. Democrats

3. The executor

3.1. Standards setters

3.2. Trainers



Self-perception of managers often do not match what employees think of him. Just as employees must know what are the styles of their managers to better understand their expectations, their working methods, their orders and their reactions.
